Voices for Children / Impact Report

1 day / 3 locations / 7 children / 6 adults.

We love it when we get to work on a project that positively impacts our community. Voices for Children trains Court Appointed Special Advocates (CASAs) to advocate for the rights of children who are in foster care. We produced their annual impact report to showcase the dedicated CASAs and their impact on the children they help.

The most important feature of the report, in my mind, is the photography. Working with talented photographers and cooperative talent, we covered three locations with 13 talent in one day.

Art directing the photo shoot reminded me of why I fell in love with being a designer. Scouting locations. Casting talent. Working closely with a trusted photographer on framing & lighting. Choosing wardrobes. Consulting with the stylist. Articulating the client’s brand — stylistically & conceptually. Responding to the unexpected, like a sudden burst of vendors setting up booths, shifting sunlight, or people walking into your shot in public places.  And when it’s a wrap, that exhilarating feeling of a job well done, with true collaboration between the client, creative team & talent.

This shoot for my client’s impact report had a few challenges & worked out beautifully — thanks to a focused client who effectively organized the shoot, and photographers with both a great eye and a great rapport with people. Gratitude also goes to the amazing places who generously let us take over their spaces.

Integrating beautiful photography, inspirational quotes, and a color palette inspired by the VFC brand, the report is a compelling tribute to the CASAs — and the story of how VFC makes a difference every day in the lives of tens of thousands of children in foster care.
